Things You Should Understand About Indie Fashion
Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of the greatest essayist and poet of all time. He said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Surely, those who follow this trend would have been proud to talk to Mr. Emerson. Those words of Emerson are very much what Indie is all about. To understand better, let us briefly discuss why many are attracted to this lifestyle. Indie believes what is outside the norms. They can’t stand stereotypes. It is said to have originated in the early seventies and eighties when music becomes a life changing experience for every person.
Nobody can really deny the influence of music to the imagery and identity of people. Nowadays, even kids as young as eight or nine are becoming interested in Indie fashion. This phenomenon is all about freedom to demonstrate, style and fashion without adhering to the standards given by men. They are not the shallow because they do not dress just to impress others.
So, what is an Indie? Indie kids regard their independence and rareness. They do not observe the ideals and philosophy of majority. They love to hear Indie and alternative music. They dislike music found in the top 20s of the music charts because those are the bands and single artists that most people adores. They are open minded, having that said, they do not judge people just by looking at others demeanor.
Adolescent Indies are fond of adorning themselves with various piercings. An Indie kid on the other hand, are not yet permissible to body piercing and they should wait until they are of legal age of 18 before they can do whatever they want with their body. Unless, their parents are Indies too. But mainly, kids under 18 are not allowed to have body piercing of any kind. They must wait until they are old enough before they can experiment with their bodies.
Since under-age kids are not yet allowed to do the things they want to do even if they have control of their bodies, there are simple ways to fake it. Magnetic studs are very popular among Indies. They are less invasive yet they look different. They are found in most boutique stores and district tattoo shops.
When it comes to their attire, most Indie kids love to wear hot pants matched with a unique top. Girls on the other hand are attached to heavy makeup and accessories. Although many parents are against this because they can appear cheap. Their philosophy is that they look atypical when they are wearing heavy makeup and big accessories. At times they wear their hair as if it has life of its own. They don’t care to fix their locks. They don’t even care if they are called names by people around them.
If you know an Indie kid somewhere, do not judge. Who knows? That kid can be someone else’s kid who needs understanding and care. Nobody can really tell what the child may turn out in the future. So don’t call them misfits or outcasts because they fit perfectly in this world and they are entitled to have their own views and ideals. They just don’t want to be conformed in this world and be called as average because they are not. Rather, love them and care them, although they are different, they are still humans.
