Top Uses For Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus(Eucalyptus globulus) comes from Australia where it has been distilled since the mid 1800s. The initial work on the special antiseptic and antibacterial properties of the oil were first published in the 1870s. Historically it has been prescribed for respiratory system conditions such as bronchitis, ‘flu, asthma and coughs.
Eucalyptus Oil has many great attributes and uses in this modern time. Here are a few of our Top Uses of Eucalyptus Oil –
1. Antiseptic Remedy:
Eucalyptus is a perfect remedy for colds, ‘flu, coughs, bronchitis, sinusitis and catarrh. Just add a few drops of the pure oil to a bowl of hot water, and inhale the vapours for a few minutes. Alternatively for more portable relief, put a couple of drops on a hanky and then inhale the scent.
2. Chest Rub:
To help colds etc during the night, a rub using 10ml of a massage oil (sweet almond, sunflower, grape seed, wheatgerm, olive etc) and6 drops of eucalyptus oil can be made up and applied before bed time.
3. Muscle & Joint Rub:
Eucalyptus is used in embrocations to relieve rheumatic and muscular pains and also for the effects of poor circulation. The same massage oil as mentioned above should be used on the affected area. The use of a few drops of rosemary oil would help.
4. General Topical Antiseptic:
The strong antiseptic effect of eucalyptus helps makes it a useful aid to burns, blisters, insect bites, cuts and wounds avoiding infection. A spray using 10 drops of eucalyptus oil and 80ml of water can be made up. The bottle will need constantly shaking, but it can also be sprayed onto the affected areas.
