No End Of Uses For Disposable Gloves
The most obvious use for disposable gloves is keeping your fingerprints off of things. This is the use that would naturally spring to the mind of a certain type of person. Virtually all criminals and anyone who has ever read a detective story knows you shouldn’t leave you fingerprints at the scene of the crime or on the murder weapon.
Fingerprints have been used for personal identification and forensic evidence since the late 1800′s. About five seconds after law enforcement figured out how to use fingerprints, criminals figured out how to wear gloves such as vinyl gloves. It looked like the end of detective fiction forever.
Fortunately mystery writers and real life shamuses quickly learned to incorporate gloves into their plots and their bodies of evidence. They learned that if there were no fingerprints at the scene of the crime the perpetrator had probably planned ahead. The crime was assumed to be premeditated except in winter when anyone might be wearing gloves to keep their hands warm.
Hand coverings became some of the most exciting pieces of evidence. There is nothing like a bloody glove found in someone’s sock drawer to sell newspapers. Readers quickly caught on that since most criminals are not stupid enough to hide evidence in their own home the owner of the sock drawer was probably being framed.
The also figured out that the Lord of the manor who owned the bloody object probably wasn’t guilty either. He is too sensible to ruin an expensive piece of goods even in a fit of passion. However his ne’er do well nephew Percy is another story.
That boy is just the type who would take someone else’s gloves without asking and then carelessly leave them at a speakeasy or opium den. That’s where the local dope dealer’s hit man Vlad the Lad would find them. He might be idiotic enough to hide valuable evidence of his guilt in his own sock drawer but no one would believe it.
A lot of dead-ends and blind alleys could be avoided if criminals would just carry inexpensive, convenient disposable hand coverings. You just slip them on, commit your heinous deed and get rid of them. No worries about expensive, easily traced items that are hard to dispose of.
Of course once they have been used the disposables still have to be disposed of. You don’t want to put them someplace where they will arouse suspicion like in a garbage can. You should probably just stash them in your sock drawer.
Throwaway hand coverings can also be useful to people who have no criminal inclinations. Doctors discovered that disposables are the most sanitary way to keep germs out of their patients. They also keep yucky stuff from their patients from getting on their own hands.
Disposables are also great for cooking and food preparation. Food stays untouched while you work. Your hands are spared the repeated washings that long sieges in the kitchen often demand.
People who unclog drains or pick up after four footed friends or clean up crime scenes want to keep germs and chemicals off their hands. Old-fashioned work gloves either have to be cleaned or they just stay filthy. It’s much safer and pleasanter to throw away the yuck with the disposable gloves as long as you don’t dispose of them in your sock drawer. A popular type of these gloves has always been the vinyl gloves.
