Baby carrier is an on-the-body carrier to carry an infant or a small child. There are many kinds of baby carriers such as the backpack carrier, soft front or hip carrier and slings. The origin of the cradleboard comes from the Native American baby carrier which the mothers used to carry their baby while traveling or working. The back strap on which the cradle is mounted is attached to the shoulder or the head. The cradle is hung on a saddle or the travois when traveling. The baby was cushioned on the cradleboard with lichens, moss or shredded bark. These are woven from flexible twigs such as willow and hazel. Or pieces of wood are cut and used. The surface of the cradleboard is flat. The child though free to move its head, is secured tightly to the cradleboard.
Perambulators or prams have been in use for a long time. They were used in the United Kingdom since the Victorian era. Its modern version is called carrycot and comes with a detachable body. Prams have almost gone out of use these days. Instead there is the modern baby carrier that can be bought from the market which is both cheaper and smaller. The more comfortable and cheaper stroller is preferred.
Kids up to the age of three can be carried in strollers. It is also known as buggies. They look just like a chair or seat on wheels. There are strollers that can carry two kids. Either the kids are placed side by side or one behind the other. There are also strollers which can accommodate three kids. This is called triple stroller. A harness is used in the stroller to secure the child firmly in the stroller. The child is prevented from falling off. there are many models of strollers in the market.
